Rebound thrombin generation after heparin therapy in unstable angina. A randomized comparison between unfractionated and low-molecular-weight heparin.

OBJECTIVES This study compared rebound coagulation in patients with acute coronary syndrome patients after discontinuation of unfractionated heparin (UFH) or low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH). BACKGROUND Up to a quarter of patients hospitalized for unstable angina experience recurrent ischemia after discontinuation of UFH or LMWH therapy, which may be the result of rebound coagulation activ...

Cases of Brainstem Infarcts after Cessation of Heparin Treatment: is it a Rebound Effect?

The presented cases represent patients with acute coronary syndrome treated with heparin infusion who developed brainstem infarction after discontinuation of heparin treatment. The patients did not present genetic coagulopathy. Others risk factors were analyzed, and the discontinuation of heparin infusion was also considered to have a predominant role in the development of infarction.

Heparin Rebound Phenomenon in Acute Coronary Syndromes: Advantage of Low Molecular Weight Heparins

Heparin rebound phenomenon was named to illustrate unstable angina pectoris (UAP) reactivation after stopping heparin. Reinfarction clustering, as well as sharp increase of both thrombin production and activity in the early hours after heparin abandoning have been described (after thrombolysis), which has been partially attributed to heparin rebound. The aim of the study was to show importance ...

Heparin induced thrombocytopenia

Abstract Background and Objectives Heparin is still a commonly used anticoagulant in prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic events. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a life-threating adverse drug reaction of heparin. The diagnosis of HIT is made based on two important criteria, firstly clinical evaluation and secondly laboratory testing. In this comprehensive review, the authors w...
